Rider University's origins can be traced back to October 2, 1865, when the Trenton Business College and Practical Training School opened and rented one room in Temperance Hall in Trenton, N.J.

In 1885, Andrew J. Rider moved the Trenton Business School to larger quarters in the Masonic Temple at State and Warren Streets, where it remained until moving to the Ribsam Building on Broad and Front Streets in 1886.

In 1886, the Trenton Business School was moved to the Ribsam Building on Broad and Front Streets. Following this move, A.J. Rider incorporated the school under the name "Rider Business College."

The merger between the Steward Business College and the Rider - Moore Business College occurred in 1901, adopting the new name "Rider-Moore & Stewart Schools. The administrative offices were moved into the Dippolt Building, located at 10 South Broad Street, Trenton, N.J., which was formerly owned by Stewart Business College.
